A 16-year-old Muslim settler, Md. Saiful Islam Toshif, has been
detained and handed over to the Kotwali Police Station following allegations
that he raped a 15-year-old disabled indigenous girl. The incident took place
in Chongrachhari village (Ward No. 2), under the Bandukbhanga Union of
Rangamati Sadar Upazila.
The assault reportedly occurred on the morning of Friday, May 15,
2026. The accused, Saiful Islam Toshif, is the son of Md. Selim and a resident
of the Puranbasti area in Reserve Bazar of Rangamati town.
According to local sources and the victim's family, the teenager was alone at home finishing her school assignments while her family members were away at work. A group of 7–8 Muslim settlers was passing through the courtyard on their way to collect fish for a local merchant.
Witnesses state that Toshif separated from the group and entered the
house under the pretext of asking for a drink of water. Finding the girl alone,
he allegedly committed the assault. Villagers rushed to the scene after hearing
the girl’s screams and successfully apprehended the accused.
Following the detention, village leaders, including the local Union
Council Chairman and members, transported Toshif to the Kotwali Police Station.
The victim was moved from the District Victim Support Center to a
local hospital for a formal medical examination. Authorities have confirmed
that legal preparations are underway to file a formal case regarding the
incident.
