Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 13 Tripura
Indigenous villagers in connection with the recovery of a partially decomposed
body of an unidentified Bengali Muslim man found buried in a forested area of
Joitun Para, Gaylenga Union, Ruma Upazila, Bandarban.
The body was recovered on Tuesday morning, June 9,
after local residents discovered it while working in a garden near the forest
and alerted the authorities. BGB personnel from Boli Para Camp and officers
from Ruma Police Station responded to the scene and recovered the remains. The
body was later sent to the Bandarban Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
A preliminary examination revealed a gunshot wound to
the head. Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the victim’s
identity and the circumstances surrounding his death.
The 13 detainees, all residents of Joitun Para, have
been identified as Anil Tripura (38), Bibimon Tripura (20), Indria Tripura
(22), Chun Chandra Tripura (35), Lafia Tripura (48), Satijon Tripura (28),
Bhagyaram Tripura (33), Pradeep Tripura (32), Alandring Tripura (29), Leo
Tripura (35), Sajalong Tripura (20), John Tripura (27), and Srimon Tripura
(66).
Ruma Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Manas Barua
confirmed the detentions and said all 13 individuals are being questioned. “The
case is being investigated with the utmost seriousness,” he said, adding that
further details could not be disclosed at this stage due to the ongoing
investigation. A case has been filed with Ruma Police Station.
The incident has caused considerable concern among
local residents.
