Bangladesh Army personnel and armed men allegedly
backed by the military conducted a joint operation in Nakrai, Ward No. 9 of
Hafchhari Union, Guimara Upazila, Khagrachhari, leaving Indigenous residents
fearful and uncertain about their safety.
According to local sources, a joint group of
Bangladesh Army personnel and armed men entered Nakrai at around 2:00 a.m. on
Sunday night, August 30. The group then took shelter inside a nearby forest and
remained there. Local residents said the group included about 15 Army personnel
and 10 armed men wearing Army uniforms.
The group came out of the forest at around 11:00 a.m.
on Monday, according to local sources.
At around 9:00 a.m., another group of 15 to 20 Army
personnel reportedly left the Naikyapara Army camp in Guimara and headed toward
Nakrai via Taindongpara Road.
At around 10:00 a.m., 30 to 35 Army personnel
reportedly travelled in three vehicles from the Sindukchhari Zone to Nakrai via
Ramesu Bazar, according to eyewitnesses.
Local residents believe the Army personnel went to Nakrai to provide security for the armed men who were staying in the area.
At around 11:30 a.m., local residents said the Army
personnel and armed men were still staying inside a teak plantation in Nakrai.
The presence and reported joint activities of Army
personnel and the armed men have caused fear and concern among residents.
