AT
least 3 members of the Jana Samhati Samiti (M N Larma faction) have been killed
and another wounded when an armed gang loyal to Santu Larma, president of his
faction of the JSS, opened fire on them in a village in Longudu Upazila under
Rangamati district, sources in the party and others have said.
The
shooting took place at 10:30am at Modyopara today as five activists of the JSS
M N Larma faction were on their way to Karallyachari from Dojoripara to attend
a public meeting.
The
Santu gdroup terrorists led by Binoy Krishna Chakma aka Renew ambushed them,
killing Sudhirgho Chakma, 40, press and publication secretary of the JSS Rangamati
district unit, Jibon Chakma, 35, son of Surendra Chakma of village Hazachara,
Longudu, and Gunendu Chakma, 24, from Dighinala and wounding Alo Moy Chakma of
Modyochara village, Longudu on the spot.
The
fifth man, Purno Kishore Chakma, a student of Khagrachari Government
College, escaped unhurt.
The
victims were unarmed and had been holding a series of public meetings for the
last 4-5 days in the area.
The
JSS M N Larma staged a demonstration in Khagrachari in protest against the incident.
The
UPDF in a statement has condemned the attack and demanded punishment for the
Santu group terrorists.
