Attempt to rape a Jumma girl, one arrested

THE police on Saturday arrested Razzak, 40, a Bengali settler, on charge of attempting to rape a Jumma teenage girl in Barkal Upazila.

According to sources, on Saturday (31 May), the girl and her parents, who are residents of Barkalak village, went to harvest paddy on fringe-land at Kajalong Mukh area under Subholong Union.

The incident occurred when she and another teenage girl went to fetch drinking water from a nearby kutcha (earthen) well.

The girls were accosted by Razzak, a resident of Natun Para in Barkal Sadar Union, who requested for some drinking water, but at one stage grabbed one of the girls.

The other girl then ran away screaming, and informed the people about the incident.

When they rushed there to rescue the victim, Razzak ran away.

After the incident, the victim’s parents filed a complaint with Barkal police station and the police immediately arrested Razzak.ASI Alauddin said Razzak was arrested on charge of attempting to rape after the victim and her parents filed a complaint.
