A 16-YEAR-OLD Jumma girl was
reportedly raped in Ruma of Bandarban district on Wednesday, 28 January.
The
victim, a class eight student of CRMH Residential School on the top of
Keokradong mountain, was on her way to attend a cultural event organized by
Bawm council when the incident took place.
Her
elder brother Lal Lung Bawm said she had come to Ruma bazar from Sunsong Para village
to buy school text books and participate in "Bawm conference for Friendship."
"When
she was on her way to enjoy a cultural event at night, Salauddin Bappi (23), a
jeep driver and her acquaintance, and Badsha Mian (36) pick her up, saying they
were also going to take part in the same event. But instead of dropping her at
the venue of the event, they took her to No. 1 Ghat, and then raped her,"
he said, adding that it was about 12 midnight when the incident took place.
A case
has been filed under Prevention of Women and Children Repression Act in this
connection.
The
police arrested Salauddin Bappi but the other accused is still at large.
