The Bangladesh Army conducted daylong operations in several villages under Ghilachari Union of Naniarchar Upazila in Rangamati district, including Keretchari, Digolchari, Dajjyachari, Punorbashon, Gorahaba, Hatimara, Maischari, and Nuoadam. During the operations, army personnel conducted house-to-house searches and harassed villagers under the guise of interrogation. One individual was taken to the Rangamati Army Brigade, where he was harassed and later released.

In the early hours of Tuesday (September 9, 2025), around 4 AM, 100–150 army personnel from various camps under the Naniarchar Zone—including Burighat and Kudukchari camps—split into several teams and entered the villages via engine boats and speedboats. Additionally, the home of Chandan Chakma (55), son of the late Bangalya Karbari—a former union council member—was also searched. He resides in Chegeachari village, Ward No. 2 of Kudukchari Union, Rangamati Sadar Upazila.

During the operation, 20–22 villagers from different areas were detained for several hours at the Dajjyachari market while they were on their way to their daily activities. They were subjected to harassment under the pretense of interrogation.

The names of the remaining detainees could not be confirmed.

The army also picked up Ritimoy Chakma (42), son of the late Arbindu Chakma—a local traditional healer—from a shop in Dajjyachari village and took him to the Rangamati Army Brigade. There, he was allegedly harassed and mentally tortured under the guise of interrogation before being released around 4 PM.

In addition to house-to-house searches and harassment, army personnel also patrolled the Chengi River using several boats and searched vehicles traveling along the Ghilachari-Kudukchari road, according to affected drivers and passengers.

According to the latest information received, after the daylong search operations, a group of 20–22 soldiers took up overnight position at Dajjyachari Government Primary School. The remaining soldiers reportedly returned to the Kudukchari Army Camp.

This daylong military operation caused fear and anxiety among locals, disrupting their normal life and daily activities.

The local residents have demanded an immediate end to the harassment and repression of ordinary villagers under the pretext of search operations.
