Natun Joy Chakma (45), Karbari of Shanti Para in the
Machalong area under Sajek Union of Baghaichhari Upazila, Rangamati and a
member of the Sajek Karbari Association, has reportedly been detained by the
Bangladesh Army along with his son, Ashapurna Chakma (24).
According to local sources, at approximately 1:00 am
last night, a team of army personnel from the Machalong Sub-Zone conducted an
operation in Shanti Para and searched the residence of Natun Joy Chakma.
Sources claim that no illegal items were found during the search. However, both
father and son were taken into custody and brought to the Machalong Sub-Zone.
Subsequently, another army team from Baghaighat Zone
reportedly arrived in a pickup vehicle and transferred the detainees from the
Machalong Sub-Zone to Baghaighat Zone. They are currently being held at the
zone headquarters, according to local reports.
The incident has triggered concern and resentment
among residents of the area. Local community members have called for the
immediate and unconditional release of the detainees.
