Apon Tripura (28), also known as Sangram, a member of
the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), was shot dead in an armed attack
reportedly carried out by armed terrorists of the PCJSS (Santu) group on March
7, 2026, in Borkona under the Latiban area of Panchari Upazila in Khagrachari
district.
According to local sources, a group of 15 to 20 armed
terrorists of the Santu group entered the Barkona area of Panchari Sadar Union
at around 11:30 am on Saturday. At that time, Apon Tripura alias Sangram was
reportedly on his way for organizational work when he encountered the group.
The attackers allegedly shot him in the head at close range, killing him on the
spot.
The United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) strongly
condemned the killing. In a statement issued to the media, Angya Marma,
organizer of the UPDF Khagrachari district unit, denounced the attack and
demanded justice.
Apon Tripura, known as Sangram, was the son of the
late Kiran Muni Tripura and Bir Bala Tripura. He was a resident of Padmini Para
village in Moratila under No. 5 Ultachari Union Parishad of Panchari Upazila in
Khagrachari district.
