A large-scale military operation is feared in the
Chittagong Hill Tracts, as Bangladesh Army personnel have been observed taking
positions in various areas of Kaukhali Upazila in Rangamati district. This has
raised concerns among local residents about the possibility of extensive
military operations in the area. As a result, anxiety and unease have spread
among the public.
According to local sources, yesterday, Monday, April
20, 2026, approximately 30 army personnel were stationed in the Bara N’bhanga
area, around 60 in the Kashkhali area, and another group in Junumachhara
village under Kaukhali Upazila.
Meanwhile, a source reported that 30 to 40 army
personnel from the Godarpara camp in Betbunia moved toward the Dabuya area.
The source further stated that the troops stationed in
Bara N’bhanga may proceed today, April 21, toward the Barkalaka or Kalabunia
areas. It has also been learned that there are plans to send army personnel to
the Panchhari area.
Additionally, there is information that more than a
hundred army personnel may be deployed in the Barmachhari area today.
Local residents fear that the army may conduct
extensive operations in the area, which could result in harassment and
persecution of civilians. Consequently, the presence of army personnel has
created widespread concern and apprehension among the people.
