On April 6, reports emerged of an increased military
presence in Amtali Union under Matiranga Upazila in Khagrachari, prompting
concern among local residents.
According to information gathered from local sources,
at approximately 5:00 pm, a group of 25-30 personnel from the Matiranga Army
Zone entered the area. The unit first assembled at the Bornal Border Guard
Bangladesh (BGB) camp before moving toward Adarsha Para in Ward No. 7 of Amtali
Union. There, they stayed at Mohonto Para Government Primary School for roughly
30 minutes before returning to the BGB camp.
Witnesses indicated that the combined presence of army
and BGB personnel in the area totaled around 52 individuals. Police officers
were also reportedly present. In addition, several residents observed 5-6
individuals dressed in black clothing, though their identities and affiliations
remain unclear.
Later in the evening, at around 8:00 pm, two drones
were reportedly deployed from the Bornal BGB camp.
At the time of reporting, army personnel were observed
patrolling Adarsha Para during the night. Residents also noted the presence of
two army vehicles in the Ramshira Bazaar area.
The visible increase in security forces, along with
surveillance measures such as drone deployment, has contributed to a sense of
unease among civilians in the locality.
