Bangladesh Army personnel reportedly conducted search operations at the homes of four villagers in Panchhari, Khagrachhari, in what residents described as a pattern of harassment.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:00 PM on Monday, May 4, 2026.

The affected individuals were identified as:

1. Sadhan Chakma (45), son of late Charan Chakma; 2. Jalakkamani Chakma (65), father unknown; 3. Mokkana Chakma (50), son of the late Bir Kumar Chakma; 4. Bangalle Chakma (47), son of late Joydhan Chakma. All are residents of Tapida Para.

According to local sources, around 30-35 army personnel from the Panchhari Sub-zone arrived in three vehicles via Pujgang Bazar and entered Tapida Para. The forces reportedly surrounded the homes of the four villagers and carried out searches. During the operation, residents were questioned about members of the UPDF.

No illegal items were found, and the personnel later returned to their camp.

Earlier incidents were also reported in the area. On May 1, army personnel searched the homes of two villagers in Jagatsen Para without clear cause. On May 3, allegations emerged that a father and son were slapped and humiliated by army personnel in Nildhan Para.

Meanwhile, since May 1, a significant number of army personnel have been stationed in temporary camps at the Samiti mango orchard in Jagatmohan Para under Chenggi Union, and on the hill of the former BGB camp in Chikonchan Para under Logang Union.

Local residents further alleged that, despite conducting operations in several locations over the past few days, the army had not carried out operations in the Dudukhchhara and Machhchhara areas, where armed members of the PCJSS (Santu group) are reportedly based. This has led to speculation among some residents regarding possible coordination between the army and the group.
