Army personnel conducted alleged search operations in
Matiranga Upazila of Khagrachhari District and continued occupying school
premises in Guimara and Laxmichhari upazilas of the same district, raising
concern among residents and parents.
They conducted searches at around 9:30 AM on
Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in Dhamai Para, Ward No. 9 of Sadar Union under
Matiranga Upazila of Khagrachhari. The houses belonged to Propul Tripura (36),
son of Sabram Tripura, and Jinuk Mala Tripura (25), daughter of the late Surya
Kumar Tripura.
A group of 20 to 25 soldiers from the Guimara Pashuram
Ghat Army camp entered the area at approximately 9:00 AM and carried out the
searches. The soldiers broke open the door of Propul Tripura’s house in his
absence and searched the premises. They also surrounded the house of Jinuk Mala
Tripura, who was not at home, after asking neighbors about her family members,
and then conducted a search.
Residents alleged that soldiers ransacked household
belongings, including students’ books and study materials, during the
operation. However, no illegal items were reportedly found in either house.
Army personnel remained in the area after the operation, and residents reported
a sense of fear in the locality.
Army deployment has continued since April 30 at Nakrei
Para Government Primary School in Ward No. 9 of Hafchhari Union under Guimara
Upazila of Khagrachhari, where more than 40 soldiers have been stationed. The
soldiers arrived in six vehicles from the Guimara Brigade at around 4:00 PM on
that day and took position at the school.
Since the following day, the soldiers have been moving
through nearby hills along the Pilak-Batya Para boundary, stating that they are
searching for a former camp. Additional army personnel arrived on Wednesday
morning in two more vehicles and joined the deployment.
In a separate development, 14 soldiers took position
on Tuesday at around 3:00 PM at Morachengi Government Primary School in Nil
Kumar Karbari Para under Laxmichhari Upazila of Khagrachhari. The unit,
deployed from the Shuknachhari Sub-zone under Laxmichhari Zone, remained
stationed there on Wednesday.
The use of school buildings as operational camps has
severely disrupted teaching activities in both locations. Teachers have been
unable to conduct classes, and students have avoided attending school due to
fear and the occupation of classrooms.
Parents and local residents have expressed concern
over the disruption to education and have called on the authorities to take
necessary steps to restore normal conditions.
