Local sources reported that a group of Bangladesh Army personnel has taken position in the remote Ramhuchhara area of Shuknochhara village under Kabakhali Union in Dighinala Upazila, Khagrachari, prompting concern among local residents.

According to residents, around 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 10, 2026, a team of soldiers from the Dighinala Army Zone entered the Shuknochhara area. Witnesses said the troops initially stayed for some time at the site where UPDF member Hegera Chakma was killed on Saturday.

The soldiers later moved to Ramhuchhara, a remote hill area, where they reportedly set up a temporary position inside an abandoned private primary school building. Residents said the soldiers informed locals that they planned to remain there for one week.

The reported deployment has created fear and uncertainty among people living in the area.

An elderly resident, who requested anonymity for security reasons, alleged that the military was connected to the killing of Hegera Chakma.

“From the morning of May 9, army patrols were visible on the road from Baghaihat No. 10 to the Dighinala Jorabridge area,” the resident said. “But after the attackers killed Hegera Chakma and safely left the area, no further army patrols were seen. This raises serious suspicion that the army may have provided security support to the assailants.”

Local residents said they are viewing the army’s presence in Ramhuchhara with growing suspicion and concern. Many fear that further violence, similar to the recent killing in Shuknochhara, could occur in the area.
