Dipayan Chakma (40), the acting principal of Midingchhari High School under Ghagra Union in Kaukhali Upazila of Rangamati District, was allegedly abducted by armed terrorists of the PCJSS (Santu) Group. After being held for nearly an hour and subjected to psychological intimidation, he was later released.

The incident reportedly took place early Thursday morning, May 7, 2026.

According to local sources, at around 3:00 AM, a group of armed terrorists of the Santu Group, led by individuals identified as Biplob and Surjya, entered the hostel of Midingchhari High School and forcibly abducted Dipayan Chakma at gunpoint. They later took him to the Chouchala Bill area of Ward No. 2 under Islampur Union, located along the border between Kaukhali and Rangunia Upazila in Chittagong.

Local sources also stated that the same armed group had arrived and taken position in Chouchala Bill village on Tuesday night, May 5, allegedly with the support of the Bangladesh Army and DGFI.

After taking him there, the armed terrorists allegedly threatened and mentally harassed Dipayan Chakma. During the interrogation, they reportedly asked whether Midingchhari High School had been established by the UPDF. After holding him for nearly an hour and questioning him on several other matters, the group released him.

Local residents stated that Dipayan Chakma had previously been abducted in 2024 under the leadership of local PCJSS (Santu) leader Subhash Chakma.

Teachers of Midingchhari High School reportedly took turns staying at the school hostel to supervise students and oversee their studies and welfare. Following the incident, fear and concern spread among teachers and parents in the area.
