Army attempts to rape a Jumma girl in Majalong

A 12-year old Jumma girl was reportedly subjected to a rape attempt by an army personnel in Majalong under Sajek Union in Rangamati district.

According to sources, the incident occurred at 1:30pm yesterday when she was on her way back home in the village of Shanti Para after working in the field.

Finding her alone on the road, a soldier from Majalong army camp, who was working on road construction, tried to grab her. But she was able to extricate herself and run away, the army men running after her.

She screamed for help and the Jumma women working nearby rushed there. The army man then slunk back.

The name of the soldier could not be known, but Majalong camp is commanded by Major Russel.

The victim’s father name is Bidya Sundor Chakma, a Jum cultivator.

The Hill Women’s Federation in a statement has condemned the incident.
