SANTU
LARMA loyalists kidnapped and tortured a factory operative in CEPZ area in the
port city of Chittagong, a Democratic Youth Forum press release said.
Santu
men led by Siko Chakma, Jibon Chakma and Babu Chakma on Sunday, 8 July, picked
up Prem Lal Chakma, 28, from his residence at Hamdunia Building at New Muring
of Bandar area in Chittagong at about 8pm.
They
took him to their den at Ambia Building
in Barrister College
area and held him there the whole night before setting him free in the morning
today.
He
was badly tortured and admitted to Chittagong
Medical College
hospital with serious injuries.
The
Santu men also snatched away his and his wife’s mobile phone sets and robbed
him of Taka 2,000.
Prem
Lal Chakma works with Smart Jacket, an apparel factory at Chittagong Export
Processing Zone (CEPZ) and hails from Marishya of Rangamati district.
Bijoy
Chakma and Tito Chakma, president and general secretary respectively of
Democratic Youth Forum Chittagong Bandar unit, in a statement today condemned
the abduction and torture of Prem Lal Chakma and demanded that the culprits be
arrested and brought to justice.
