AN 82-year old Jumma woman was killed in Taindong under
Matiranga Upazila of Khagrachari district yesterday.
The
octogenarian has been identified as Phool Kumari Tripura, a resident of Headman
Para in Taindong Mouza No. 191. Her husband name is Kamala Kumar Tripura.
She
was recovered at 2pm from a stream
near their village.
According
to sources, the victim had gone to a stream nearby their house in the morning
to catch fish. As she was getting late for lunch, her next of kin began
searching for her and found her lying dead.
One
villager said various parts of her body, including the neck, bore cut marks,
leading to speculation that she was hacked to death by Bengali settlers.
Police
from Matiranga Thana went to the area but said ‘it was a natural death.’
Jumma
villagers demanded a post mortem of the body but police refused to send her to
a hospital for autopsy, saying it was unnecessary.
