Larma-backed students, known as Dui Numberi, attacked two activists of the Hill
Students’ Council in Dhaka, leaving one of
them seriously injured.
The
attack took place at 7:30pm near Shakya Muni Buddhist temple in Mirpur today,
Sunday, when Jugol Chakma, a second year student of Bangladesh America
University, and his
friend Trishonku Chakma were walking towards Mirpur Section 10 Crossing after a
meeting with Jumma students at Banaphul.
“We
got out of Banaphul gate and barely walked a few steps when they swooped on us
with sticks.’ Trishonku, who passed out from a private polytechnic institute in
Dhaka, told chtnews.com.
Although
he ran away with minor injuries, Jugol Chakma has got his head fractured, he
added.
According
to him, four Dui Numberis led by Sunendu Chakma made the attack.
The
PCP activists went to Banaphul to persuade Jumma students to participate in a
protest demonstration to be held on 1 March in Dhaka to demand constitutional
recognition for indigenous and national minorities living in Bangladesh.
The
programme is being organized by Jatisatta Mukti Sangram Parishad
(Nationalities’ Liberation Movement Council)
