Settlers attempt to kill Jumma youth in Guimara

THE Bengali settlers in Guimara of Khagrachari district attempted to strangle a Jumma youth to death as he was on his way back home from Khagrachari, reports said.

The incident took place at 11am today, 22 April, during a demonstration that a group of Bengali settlers staged in protest at what they said the destruction of a mango garden in Ramgarh.

The victim has been identified as Kalendra Tripura, 19, son of Khagendra Tripura of Sindukchari Bazar para village.

According to eyewitnesses’ account, as soon as Khagenda reached Bara Pilak area, the settlers caught and beat him, and then tried to strangle him to death.

However, he was saved when one of his acquaintances among the settlers, Md. Alam, came to his rescue.

The attackers were on their way to participate in the demonstration at Jaliapara on Khagrachari – Chittagong highway.
