Army arrests 3 in Matiranga

THE army have arrested 3 Jummas, including a local leader of the Hill Students’ Council (PCP), in Matiranga under Khagrachari district.

Ripon Tripura, 18, finance secretary of PCP Guimara Thana, was arrested in the morning today from Matiranga bazar.

Ripon, son of Pijonto Tripura, is a 10th grade student of Matiranga Pilot High School.

According to sources, he went to Matirana bazar (market) at 9am.

“Soldiers from Matiranga zone took him to their camp after the arrest” the source said adding that he was later handed over to the police.

In another incident, the army arrested two Jumma youths from Ballyachari area at 5pm today and handed them over to the Guimara police station.

The arrested are Bikram Tripura, 18, son of Shashanka Tripura and Shoven Tripura, 17, son of Dhirendra Tripura.

The former is a resident of Otiram Master Para and the latter hails from Signboard area in Matiranga.

Both of them are employed as night guards at a local bridge construction site of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, JICA.

The reason from the arrests could not be known immediately.
