Massive house searches in Laxmichari

THE army today conducted house to house searches in the village of Jatindra Karbari Para, about 2 kilometers south-east of Laxmichari Upazila headquarters.
According to sources, a group of army personnel led by an unnamed captain from Laxmichari zone raided the village at noon today and searched eight houses and six shops for what they said was “terrorists”.
The owners of the houses searched are Jugendra Chakma, 55, son of late Natun Kumar Chakma; Taruni Chakma, 35, son of Jugendra Chakma; Gurikya Chakma, 30, son of Kala Banchi Chakma; Krishna Chandra Chakma, 35, son of Kala Banchi Chakma; Shimul Chakma, 28, son of Modhu Chandra Chakma; Sumon Chakma, 32, son of Tamulukya Chakma; Jogendra Sen Chakma, 55, son of Bhubon Joy Chakma; and Bengo Chakma, 35, son of Kholya Chakma.
The shops that the army searched belong to Jummas. They are Binod Bihari Chakma, 43, son of Dhonya Chakma; Raj Kumar Chakma, 70, son of unknown; Nishi Kumar Chakma, 55, son of Chandra Mohan Chakma; Badhi Chakma, 50, son of unknown; and Rabindra Chakma, 55, son of Ramani Mohan Chakma.
The soldiers also snatched away two mobile handsets from Binod Bihari Chakma and Rabindra Chakma.
The search lasted for about an hour, and when they found neither any “terrorist” nor incriminating materials, the army men returned to their camp.
The name of the captain who led the searches could not be known. Laxmichari zone is commanded by Lt. Col. Moazzem Hossain.
