One wounded in settler attack in Kaokhali

A JUMMA villager has been seriously wounded in Kaokhali when the Bengali settlers hacked him.
The incident took place on Thursday night (19 June) in the village of Ghilachari. The victim, Paiche Marma, 40, son of Ulah Aung Marma, has been admitted to hospital in Kaokhali.
According to sources, Md. Nazrul Islam and Billal Member, two Bengali settlers from Ghilachari Miapara village had been trying to grab 2 acres of land and the homestead of Paiche Marma.
Failing to occupy his land in the face of protest, Nazrul Islam, 40, and Billal’s son Jahurul, 25, broke into his house at about 10:30pm and attacked him with machetes, wounding him seriously.
Later, he was rescued and admitted to Kaokhali hospital by his neighbours. He received cuts on his forehead and other parts of the body.
It is not known if any case has been filed against the attackers.
