Settler attempts to rape Jumma woman in Manikchari

THE police have arrested a settler youth on charge of attempting to rape a 28-year-old Jumma woman in Manikchari under Khagrachari district.

The incident happened at 10pm on Tuesday night in the village of Darjya Para under Tintehori Union when Md. Hanif, 22, a caretaker of a garden owned by Kader Company in the locality, sneaked into the house of the woman, who was sleeping with her minor children. Her husband was not at home at the time.

Hanif grabbed her and tried to rape her. But when she fought back and screamed for help, Hanif ran out of the house.

When the incident became known, the victim’s husband, her brother and other villagers went to the farm house of Kader Company at 11pm, seized him and then handed him over to the police.

The Officer-in-charge of Manikchari police station, Md. Shafiqul Islam, confirmed the incident, and added that they were preparing to file a case against the culprit.

Hanif, son of Anisur Rahman of the village of Manikchari Adarsha Gram, joined as a caretaker for the Chittagong-based Kader Company only two days before the incident.
