A 27-YEAR-OLD Jumma
woman is reported to have been raped by suspected members of the ruling Awami
League in Kaokhali Upazila of Rangamati district.
According to sources, the victim, a
resident of Baro Dulu Para village, was rescued by police from Mini Market in
front of BRAC office in Kaokhali Sadar at 2:30am on Thursday and was admitted
to a local health complex.
She is believed to have been left
behind after rape. Although the identity of her rapists could not be known,
they are suspected to be members of the local Awami League committee.
The incident occurred after she went
out of her home at 11pm to relieve herself.
On Thursday, Aung Shui Pru
Chowdhury, a local Awami League leader and a member of Rangamati District
Council, took her, a mother of a child, from the hospital to his home.
No case has been filed in connection
with the incident, and neither the Awami League, nor the police nor her family
members have commented on the matter.
