THE COMMANDER of Baghaihat zone reportedly threatened Jyoti Lal Karbari, vice president of the Sajek Land Protection Committee, by mobile phone.

Mr. Karbari told chtnews.com that Abu Raihan, commander of Baghaihat zone, had called him at 9:30 p.m. last night ( 18 march) to say that no political programme would be allowed in Ujo bazar, a predominantly Jumma market built at the time of resistance against a massive land grabbing drive by Bengali settlers in Sajek in 2010.

“No meetings and rallies would be allowed in Ujo bazar in future. If anyone holds them, we will take action against him,” Jyoti Lal quoted the army commander as telling him.

“Abu Raihan further said that I had been doing all the things in Ujo bazar, that I was organizing the women for rallies and demonstrations and that I had taken people to Dighinala to join the 15 March foot march,” Jyoti Lal said.

He further said that the commander had threatened him, saying he would get into trouble in his old age if he did not become careful.
Earlier, on the night of 15 March, the army had raided his house to arrest him.
