Jumma woman gang raped in Kaptai

A 35-year-old Jumma woman was reportedly gang-raped and another physically abused on Sunday night (May 3) in Kaptai Upazila under Rangamati district.

The police arrested five suspects and registered a case in connection with the incident.

Acording to the complaint filed with the police, the victims were on their way to Kaptai from Chitmorong when the attack took place.

"As soon or the CNG autorickshaw carrying them reached near Banophul Rest House at Bengchari at 9 p. m. the miscreants stopped them", it said and added that they had pulled them out forced them to a nearby stream and took turns raping one of the women.

The miscreants attempted to rape the other women, but when failed they abused her physically.

The victims filed a case with Kaptai Thana (police station) on the same night.
Acting on their complaint, the police conducted an operation and arrested five suspects from different locations.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Hasan (34), Abul Kalam (45), Khokan (28), Babul (27) and Manik (39).

The officer-in-charge of Kaptai police station Harun-ar Rachid confirmed the incident and said that a case had been filed under the Suppression of Women and Children Repression Act.


The woman who was raped is a resident of Tarachari village in Belaichari Upazila while the other hailed from Notun Bazar in Kaptai.
