Army personnel conducted an operation in Jubanashwa
Para, a village under Chengi Union in Panchari Upazila of Khagrachari District,
on Tuesday morning, March 17. During the operation, four local indigenous
youths were detained and later released after what residents described as
harassment.
According to local sources, at around 9:00 a.m., a
contingent of approximately 30 to 35 soldiers from the Panchari Sub-Zone
entered the area in three vehicles via the lower Pujgang Bazar road. The troops
reportedly moved into Jubanashwa Para and detained four youths from the
village.
The detainees were identified as Imon Chakma, 23, son
of Ramdas Chakma; Darshan Chakma, 20, son of unknown; Junior Chakma, 17, son of
Ananta Chakma; and Purnajyoti Chakma, 19, son of Bhavatosh Chakma. Witnesses
said the indigenous youths were taken around the village by the soldiers during
the operation.
The army later conducted a search at a house in the
area. However, no illegal items were reportedly found. Local residents also
alleged that the same house had been searched multiple times in recent months,
with claims that household belongings were taken during previous operations.
After completing the operation, the soldiers
reportedly released the four detainees before leaving the area.
