An attempted rape of a Marma housewife has been
reported in Fakirnala village under Union No. 1 of Manikchhari Upazila in
Khagrachhari district. Local residents apprehended the accused, Md. Mizan (34),
and handed him over to a local BNP leader. The incident occurred around 12:00
PM on Monday, March 23, 2026.
The accused, Md. Mizan, is the son of Md. Anwar
Hossain and a resident of Shikdar Tila in the Hatimura area of Ward No. 3 under
Union No. 2 Hafchhari.
According to local sources, the victim was on her way
to collect water from a well when Md. Mizan allegedly attempted to sexually
assault her by force. Nearby residents, alerted by the situation, rushed to the
scene and detained the suspect.
He was later handed over by locals to BNP leader
Hafizul Islam.
Meanwhile, allegations have emerged that Mongmong
Marma, a leader of the Marma Unity Council and a resident of Fakirnala village,
instructed locals not to file a case with the police regarding the incident.
