Bangladesh Army personnel conducted search operations at the homes of two residents in Panchari Upazila of Khagrachari District early Saturday, according to local sources.
Residents reported that around 35 to 40 soldiers from the Panchari Sub-Zone entered Harigopal Para in Logang Union on foot at approximately 5:00 a.m. on March 14. The troops reportedly remained in the area for a period before moving toward the Joint Farm (Jhotakhamar) locality.
During the operation, soldiers flew drones over the surrounding area for surveillance, which reportedly caused fear among local residents.
The army searched the homes of two individuals identified as Babul Chakma, 35, son of Biraj Kumar Chakma, and Penta Tripura, 40, son of Pramod Tripura, both residents of the Joint Farm area.
Family members said the soldiers asked questions about whether members of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) visited the area, where they stayed, and whether the residents had seen them.
No illegal items were reportedly found during the searches. After completing the operation, the soldiers returned to their camp.
Local residents expressed concern and frustration over
what they described as a harassing search operation.
