Police have recovered the bodies of a woman and her
young daughter from the base of a hill in the Meghla area of Bandarban town.
The bodies were found Thursday afternoon, March 19,
2026, in a remote area near Meghla Lal Mohon Bagan, within the Tanchangya Para
locality.
The deceased have been identified as Ramesing Marma,
30, and her four-year-old daughter, Brishti Marma. They were residents of the
Meghla Kana Para area in Bandarban Sadar.
According to police and local residents, family
members had been searching for the mother and child since Wednesday night, when
they went missing. During the search, locals discovered their bodies lying at
the foot of a steep hill in a densely forested area. Police were notified and
later recovered the bodies with assistance from residents, sending them to
Bandarban Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Preliminary assumptions suggest they may have fallen
from the top of the hill, though authorities have not ruled out the possibility
of foul play, including the chance that they were pushed.
Local residents have called for a thorough
investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the deaths and to ensure
accountability if any crime is involved.
Additional Superintendent of Police Manna Dey confirmed the recovery, stating that the cause of death remains unknown and will be determined following the autopsy.
