Residents in parts of Matiranga Upazila in Khagrachari say they are feeling increasingly uneasy following the recent deployment of army personnel in Amtali and Barnal unions.

Local sources report that around 25 to 30 soldiers from the Dewanpara Army Camp in Bhaibonchhara arrived at the Am Bagan area of Birashi Mura Headmanpara at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, and have remained stationed there since.

In Barnal Union, a separate group of troops has reportedly been present in Pran Kumar Para, Ward No. 6, since March 24. According to residents, about 20 to 25 personnel from the Matiranga Zone are currently staying at the local government primary school.

The deployments come just ahead of a major traditional festival observed by indigenous hill communities. Many residents say the timing has added to their sense of uncertainty, with some describing an atmosphere of quiet tension in the area.
