It is reported that army personnel conducted searches
at two homes and took away utensils and cooking equipment used by local
residents for community purposes. The incident reportedly took place on April
27, 2026, in Betagichhara Natim Karbari Para village, Ward No. 7 of Bangaltali
Union under Baghaichhari Upazila in Rangamati.
According to local sources, at around midnight on
Monday, a group of soldiers from the Two Tila Army Camp in Baghaichhari entered
the village and carried out what residents described as harassing searches at
the homes of Bijoy Chakma (63), son of the late Dhirendra Chakma, and his son,
Rikash Chakma (37).
Residents said that after finding nothing illegal
during the searches, the soldiers went to the old Kshetrapur Secondary School,
which was built by the local community. It is alleged that they broke the lock
of one of the rooms and took away several utensils and cooking items stored
there for communal use.
A local elder, who requested anonymity, said the
school was originally constructed with tin sheets and bamboo fencing through
community contributions. It was later upgraded to a tin-shed structure with
support from the Development Board. The older rooms were then used to store
equipment for social activities. He added that around midnight, army personnel
entered the premises and took away those items.
