Residents in the Burmachhari area of Lakshichhari
Upazila in Khagrachhari district have expressed concern following a reported
increase in army activity.
According to local sources, troops from Lakshichhari
Zone, along with personnel from the Khiram and Suknachhari army camps, may be
conducting operations in multiple groups across the area. There are also
reports suggesting that members of an auxiliary group may be accompanying the
soldiers.
Residents stated that a contingent of army personnel
has already taken position in Hudukchhari under Burmachhari Union. In a
separate development, another group of soldiers reportedly traveled in three
vehicles from Lakshichhari Zone to the Suknachhari camp.
Meanwhile, sources reported that a unit from Khiram
army camp was seen advancing toward Burmachhari market.
The reported troop movements have heightened concern
among local residents. Previous incidents in the area have included allegations
of harassment during house searches, looting of property, and attempts to
occupy land belonging to a Buddhist monastery for the establishment of a
military camp. As a result, residents say that any increase in military
presence tends to generate fear and apprehension within the community.
