On May 3, 2026, Bangladesh army personnel assaulted
Kiran Tripura, 65, and his son, Arun Uday Tripura, 30, in Panchhari,
Khagrachhari.
The incident reportedly took place this Sunday morning
in Niladhan Para under Panchhari Upazila.
According to local sources, at around 10:00 AM, a
contingent of 40–45 army personnel arrived in four vehicles from the Panchhari
Sub-zone. They entered Harigopal Para and Niladhan Para via Fatema Nagar in
Logang Union. The soldiers allegedly seized a mobile phone from Kiran Tripura,
65, a shopkeeper from Niladhan Para and son of the late Paran Dhan Tripura. His
son, Arun Uday Tripura, was also present at the shop at the time.
Locals stated that the army personnel questioned the
father and son with remarks such as: “Where have the UPDF members gone? Which
direction did they take? Why do you provide them with food?” They were
allegedly pressured to provide information about UPDF members. During the
questioning, both were reportedly slapped by the soldiers.
Residents of the area have expressed anger over such
treatment of ordinary civilians.
It is noted that since May 1, a large number of army
personnel have been stationed in Taraban of Chenggi Union and Chikonchan Para
of Logang Union in Panchhari, setting up camps. Locals also reported that
drones are being used from these positions for surveillance in the area.
