The Bangladesh Army is reported to have carried out
searches at the homes of two villagers in Jagatsen Para, Panchhari Upazila of
Khagrachhari, early on Friday.
The incident occurred in the early hours of May 1,
2026.
The individuals affected have been identified as
Snehamoni Chakma, 55, son of Nishiram Chakma, who died a week ago, and
Pattojjye Chakma, 50, son of Dungo Moni Chakma.
According to local sources, at around 22:00 on
Thursday, April 30, more than 150 soldiers, travelling in approximately 20
vehicles from the Panchhari sub-zone, entered the areas of Pujgang, Tripura
Bill, Jubonashwa Para, and Tarabon. After remaining there overnight, a
contingent of around 50 to 55 personnel raided Jagatsen Para, under No. 2
Chenghi Union, at about 05:00 on Friday.
Residents said the soldiers conducted extensive
searches of the two homes and ransacked household belongings. Family members
were also subjected to what locals described as repeated and intrusive
questioning.
No illegal items were reportedly found during the
operation. The soldiers later moved towards Jagpara, where they regrouped with
other personnel stationed in the area.
In a separate incident on April 30 at around 12:00, a
group of 60 to 70 soldiers visited Monipara in Logang Union, reportedly under
the pretext of distributing relief. Local residents said several individuals
were called forward and questioned about the whereabouts and activities of UPDF
members, including whether they were being provided with food. A small quantity
of relief was subsequently distributed before the soldiers returned to their
camp.
