Army Searches Three Houses in Khagrachhari; Allegation of Detention of One Individual

On May 3, 2026, the army conducted searches at three houses and detained one individual in South Nilkanta Para, Dharmapur area, under Perachhara Union in Khagrachhari Sadar Upazila.

According to local sources, at around 6:30 PM on Sunday, May 3, 2026, a joint team of army and police personnel raided South Nilkanta Para. They first searched the house of a local resident and ransacked household belongings. They then conducted a search at the house of another resident, Pratimoy Chakma.

However, after failing to find any illegal items in those two houses, the joint forces later went to the house of Jonel Chakma, 34, another resident of the same area, where they conducted a search and allegedly assaulted him.

It is reported that, while leaving the area, they detained Jonel Chakma and took him away.

Jonel Chakma’s father is Kripan Jyoti Chakma. Locals stated that he works as a driver for a parcel service company.

Although the exact reason for his detention remains unclear, some Facebook pages, citing joint force sources, have claimed that “illegal foreign cigarettes” were recovered from him. However, local residents have alleged that the cigarette recovery was staged.

The incident has caused concern among local residents.
