The Borkha Party terrorists have shot dead one person in Laxmichari under Khagrachari district.

The deceased has been identified as Nirmal Chakma, 30, son of Pulindra Chakma of village Dudya under Laxmichari Sadar Union. He was an ex-member of the Borkha Party but returned to normal life two years ago.

Eyewitnesses said Nirmal Chakma was shot dead at around 7:45am today at Sorkari Debha in Kanchanpur Union of Fatikchari while he was on his way to Sumurhat bazaar.

People present at the scene could recognize one of the two assailants. His name is Sukhya Chakma.

Borkha Party is a vigilante group formed by Bangladesh military in Laxmichari to counter the growing influence of the UPDF, a party of the Jumma people campaigning for full autonomy for the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

The BP is also patronized by PCJSS (Santu faction). Last year Santu group took full control of the BP, providing it with sophisticated weapons as well as man power.
